Video Games - The Marvel Called PlayStation 3
PlayStation 3 by Sony is the latest buzz in video games. The Sony PlayStation has dominated the video game market since 1994 and the latest PlayStation 3 proves why. PlayStation 3 is also referred to as PS3 and is an answer to Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

You might be asking what PlayStation 3 is all about.
First of all it has excellent graphics. In fact, PS3 goes beyond video gaming. It also doubles in as Blu-ray and a DVD player. Since the Blu-ray drive is backward compatible, you can also play CDs and DVDs. Its Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound gives complete entertainment. To beat the competition offered by Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Sony joined hands with IBM and Toshiba to create the greatest video game console. The result was an innovation called Cell Processor. The latest PS3 is equipped with this Cell Processor, which has one 3.2 Gigahertz PowerPC processor. It has eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). Each of these SPEs has 256 Kilobytes of SRAM. At any given time only seven of these SPEs would be working, the eighth one is reserved for when the others fail.
Reality Synthesizer
The technological greatness of PS3 does not stop here. Besides the eight SPEs that we talked about, PS3 is also equipped with a Graphic Processing Unit called the RSX “Reality Synthesizer.” The Reality Synthesizer runs at 550-MHz and has- hold your breath- 300 million built in transistors. So you might be wondering what does that do for your video games. With Reality Synthesizer you get graphics that are really, really close to the photographs of real objects. In other words you get very close to reality video games.
You can choose between a 20 Gigabyte hard drive model and a 60 Gigabyte hard drive model. The 60 Gigabyte model offers 4 USB ports, one Gigabit Ethernet port, optical audio output, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. With the latest PS3 you can play over 13,000 video games. With so many wonderful features, PS3 is rightly called the real video game system.
Cost
Now let us talk about its cost. Those who are seriously into video games would actually do anything to get their hands on a PS3. That is they would even shell out anywhere between $500- $700. To many of us this might seem too high. However, when you look at all the features of PS3, plus the kind of entertainment it offers, you will desperately want to own one of your own.
Today PS3 is truly the next generation video game system that is too hard to resist. Tomorrow there would be a new PlayStation version or maybe Xbox version that would out-do PS3 and take video gaming to the next level. However, for the time being there is nothing like PS3.
