Various Types Of Video Games
Video games had a very modest beginning about 50 years ago. The initial types of computer games were, however, mostly available in the form of arcade games that were played in shops and arcades. These computer games were controlled by a computer and the players had to interact with the game device and they were expected to reach the pre-set targets.
Present day video games are also another form of computer games wherein there is video display that enables the players’ moves to be interactive and dynamic and visible on the display. This also helps in being able to see the feedback and the results at every stage of the game.
Brief History Of Video Games
The popularity of video games has increased exponentially only during the past three decades due to the innovations being carried out as a result of the constant improvement in modern technologies. The popularity of these games has also increased because of the realistic and interactive nature of modern-day video games. The initial phase of these games had seen some very unrealistic concepts but with the passage of time, the modernization of technology and the evolvement of new concepts, the latest video games are a cut above the rest.
During the gradual evolvement of the video games, there was a dark phase in 1983 and 1984 when the video game business simply crashed and fell unexpectedly. Many video games companies had to declare bankruptcy due to the crash. However, it didn’t take long for the business to recover and today, it’s booming once again. Video games are a great source of entertainment to people of all age groups but controversy has always been a part of this business as kids and adults do get addicted to these games with some disastrous consequences.
Home Video Games
There are many video games that are specifically meant for being played at home. Some of these are described below.
Portable Games
These are the smallest systems and appear to be similar to mobile phones. Because of their portability, these games do not have detailed graphics or appealing looks. The most popular video games company in this range is Nintendo which has many popular games such as Game Boy. Sony has also entered this field with Playstation Portable or PSP.
Console Games
The latest home video games were started by Microsoft with their Xbox 360 consoles in which they offer a large number of games. Nintendo Wii, on the other hand, has a smaller number of video games but it has unique features such as a motion sensing controller that resembles a remote. The other competitor is Sony that offers Playstation 3 or PS3. Although the PS3 does not have a very large collection of games, it can play Hi Definition Blu-Ray movies.
Most video games can be played with both Windows and Apple Mac and these are developed with the Windows PC in mind. Keyboard and mouse are used in playing these games especially in the case of RTS and FPS types of games but for arcade and sports games, a USB joystick is needed for playing them.
