The System
There are thousands and thousands of video games out there for you to choose from. However, before you choose a video game you need to find out from the kid’s parents the system he/she is using. PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 are the names of some of the video games console that kids are using nowadays. Therefore, your goal is to buy a video game that goes with the system the kid is using.
What Kind Of Game?
Now you must be wandering what kind of a video game should I buy for the kid? The answer is quite simple. If the kid loves football, buy him/her a football video game. If he or she is into movies, you can buy him/her a video game based on a movie. There are plenty of choices out there. All you have to do is look around.
Rating
Since you would be buying a video game for a kid, you would obviously want to make sure that you are buying a kid-friendly video game. Sony PlayStation 2 offers around 600 video games with “E” rating. “E” rating signifies that the game is suitable for kids of age six and above. If you are buying a video game for a kid of around ten years of age, you should be looking for a rating of E10+. PS2 offers a lot of choices in this field also.
Xbox and Xbox 360 also offer many video games with E rating. To be precise Xbox has 270 video games and Xbox 360 has around a dozen titles with “E” rating.
Another factor that you might want to take into consideration while buying a video game for a kid is the parental control option. Xbox and Xbox 360 offer the best parental control options in video games. You can set the system to play only E-rated games and you can be sure that your kids would not be able to play DVDs with Teen, Mature or Adult ratings.
GameCube system on the other hand offers a less effective parental control option. All it does is tone down images considered unsuitable for kids. For example, it would show less amount of blood in a game if it is being played by a kid.
Before you open up your wallet to pay for that video game, make sure that you have read its reviews. The best place to find the review is obviously the internet. Some reviews provide a percentage score. If a game has a score of 60% and above, you should go for it.
With your well researched choice you can be sure that the kid is going to have long hours of wholesome fun.
